MINUTES from meeting #13
The 13th meeting of the Norwegian Scotch Malt Whisky Society was held at the abode of Mr Lars Haldorsen on Friday 29 October 1999.

Mr Lars Haldorsen (our distinguished host) gave the Society a thorough introduction into the mysteries regarding casks, their quality and their importance on the outcome of the destilleries' produce (minuted).

After such an enlightening introduction, it was only natural that the members present moved on from their beers to the "real thing" - the Whiskey of the Night: A Springbank (32 year old, single malt, cask strength 54.4%, Campletown). This whisky is from the distillery J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd, and was appreciated by all members, as the points indicated further down will show.

The following whiskies were also supplied for the enjoyment of the members, we had the pleasure of tasting a Bowmore Islay Cask Strength (56%), a Glenkeith 10 year old Speyside (43%, The Glen Keith Distillery Company), A Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength Speyside (60%, J & G Grant) and a Loch Dhu 10 year old Black Whisky (40%, the Mannochmore Distillery). All whiskys, except the Glenfarclas were awarded points by the members, as the latter had been rated at an earlier meeting of the Society. However, it should be noted that the Society's members were not at all fond of black whisky, as it in no way resembled anything close to an outstanding whisky!

As can be read from the points awarded above, the Whisky of the Night was considered the best whisky this evening, whilst the Loch Dhu was considered "utter crap" by most members.

It is a tradition that Mr Jaunsen brings along his rather large and distinguished collection of Scottish music on such meetings, as it has become a tradition that bag-pipe music is tolerated for only so long. This evening was no exception, as not even one CD was played to the very end before someone (name with-held) sabotaged the flow of musical pearls to the ears of the members.

It has also become a tradition that Mr Berntssen has not been able to dress according to the Articles of Association, and yet again tradition was being upheld. It was noted by the members that Mr Berntssen yet again was not wearing cuff-links, however, a white shirt and bow tie was observed.

The next Meeting will be held at the abode of Mr Marc Berntssen on Friday 26 November at 7 p.m.

Please note that all members must confirm if they are attending the meeting or not - directly to the host!

Mr and Mrs Handal informed the next meet's host that they were unable to attend the following Meeting, as they unfortunately are out of town on the date indicated.
